Katy Perry’s much-anticipated musical comeback has hit a snag with her latest single, “Women’s World,” failing to make a significant impact on the charts.
Despite an extensive promotional campaign, the track has struggled to gain traction, peaking at number 63 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching number 47 in the UK charts.
It debuted at number 65 on the Global 200 and ranked 110 on Spotify’s U.S. chart and 58 on its global chart.
The song’s poor performance has reportedly caused Perry to panic ahead of her upcoming seventh studio album, “143,” set for release on September 20.
Sources suggest Perry is demanding her team rethink their strategy to avoid another flop like “Women’s World.”
One major factor contributing to the backlash is Perry’s collaboration with producer Lukasz Gottwald, known as Dr. Luke, who has been embroiled in controversy since 2014 due to allegations of sexual misconduct by singer Kesha.
Although the legal battle between Kesha and Dr. Luke was settled out of court earlier this year, his association with Perry’s new single has not been well received by her fanbase. Critics on social media have expressed their disappointment, with some vowing not to support the track.
Perry’s decision to work with Dr. Luke has sparked criticism not only for the controversy surrounding him but also for the lack of female producers on the track. An insider commented that it was unrealistic for Perry to think she could escape backlash by collaborating with Dr. Luke, especially for a song about female empowerment.
Despite some fans arguing that Perry was forced to work with Dr. Luke, her 2018 deposition during Kesha’s lawsuit revealed that she had completed her contract with his label and was not contractually obligated to collaborate with him.
