She lives under strict protection and has not seen her parents since she married Kim.
She is never alone, always seen with her husband Kim.
Allegedly they were forced to marry each other. When his father Kim Jong-il had a stroke in 2008 he ordered his son to marry Ri Sol-ju and that was it.
They changed her name and erased her entire past. Her real name and year of birth are still a mystery (possibly between 1984 and 1989).
Their children are not allowed in public events, in fact, there are no pictures of them. Supposedly they have two daughters and a son (the government never officially confirmed).
You can not take her photo without her husband’s permission.
When she was pregnant she disappeared from the public eye for several months.
She is not allowed to travel outside her country. She can only participate in funeral-related visits and must be accompanied by her husband.
She is not allowed to change her hairstyle since 2010 (after giving birth to her first child).
Although she wears designer clothes and is considered a “fashion icon” to North Korean women, her husband approves everything beforehand. Oh, she’s not allowed to wear jeans, in the early days of their marriage she was allowed to wear them.
Her past:
She comes from a wealthy and respected family, they belong to North Korea’s political elite.
North Korean commentators identified Ri as a singer in the Unhasu Orchestra. Supposedly she has made several overseas performances before marrying Kim.
South Korean intelligence reports that she was a student at Kim II-sung University, and she holds a Ph.D. in science.
However, since marrying Kim, North Korean officials have tried to “erase” her past as a singer. They confiscated CDs & DVDs of her performances. You can watch a video of her below.
