The foreign born superhero knows his co-star is being barraged by racist abuse, but he won’t say anything because he doesn’t like to make any waves at all.

Francesca Amewudah-Rivers

Romeo & Juliet

Tom Holland is under pressure to speak out in support of Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, his co-star in the West End production of Romeo & Juliet.

Almost 900 Black artists signed an open letter condemning the racial abuse Amewudah-Rivers has faced online since her casting announcement.

The letter highlights the common experience of Black performers facing abuse for simply getting a job.

Despite initial celebration of her casting, Amewudah-Rivers received racist and misogynistic comments attacking her appearance and desirability.

The Jamie Lloyd Company, where she’s performing, issued a statement denouncing the abuse and pledging support for their artists.

However, Holland’s silence on the matter is drawing attention, especially considering he occasionally uses social media to support his girlfriend Zendaya or promote his projects.
