A$AP Rocky

Rihanna

A$AP Rocky’s pre-trial for his alleged role in a 2021 shooting opened with unexpected courtroom drama—this time over Rihanna’s marital status. Judge Mark S. Arnold sought clarity on whether Rihanna should be referred to as Rocky’s wife during jury proceedings. Rocky’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, argued that Rihanna is his “common-law wife,” but prosecutors objected, asserting that no legal marriage had been confirmed.

The judge ultimately ruled that Rihanna could not be called Rocky’s wife unless legally proven, labeling her instead as his “significant other” or “mother of his children.” This decision quashed any lingering speculations about the couple’s legal relationship status.

On the legal front, prosecutors reportedly offered Rocky a plea deal, which would have allowed him to plead guilty to lesser charges. However, Tacopina revealed that his client firmly rejected the offer, stating, “We have no interest in a settlement.”

The charges stem from allegations by A$AP Relli (Terell Ephron), who claims Rocky fired four shots at him during a dispute in Los Angeles in November 2021. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Rocky holding a firearm, though his defense team maintains his innocence.

As jury selection looms, Tacopina hinted that Rocky is prepared to take the stand if needed, saying, “He’s eager to tell his story. He’s a good human being, and that would come out if he testifies.”

Whether Rihanna will attend the trial remains unclear, with Tacopina noting that Rocky prefers to shield her from the proceedings. Jury selection begins on January 21, with the trial expected to last around 15 days. If convicted, Rocky faces a potential sentence of up to 24 years.
